Buyer Planner Procurement Specialist (Job ID: 172 Buyer) 

Position Summary: 

  • The Buyer will be responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors.  Buyer will evaluate vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers.
  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and 3 years of experience in the field or in a related area.  Buyer should be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within industry.  CPM certification and prior experience in high-speed manufacturing environment preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish approved suppliers for raw materials including researching of suppliers, negotiating pricing, resolving any discrepancies, reporting quality issues, etc.
  • Assist with cost saving projects in various functions and review of specification changes as well as participating in vendor audits.
  • Conduct financial analysis as necessary to ensure the lowest total cost for materials; as well as recommending ideas for cost reduction and implementation, this includes both bidding for commodity groups and spot buys.
  • Ensure the flow of raw materials and supplying the production lines with quality materials while reducing product cost with the best possible vendor pricing and negotiating for best price, quantity and delivery.
  • Provide input to corporate budget for materials.
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and evaluate for appropriate action. 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Business or related field.
  • CPM “Certified Purchasing Manager” certification preferred. 

Position Requirements: 

  • Proven ability to negotiate contracts with vendors, develop alternative vendors, reduce vendor base by development agreements, etc.
  • Experience in a high speed manufacturing environment.
  • Participate in project performance team meetings on behalf of the job unit in order to provide ideas, methods, or processes for unit/company performance improvement.
  • Maintain marketplace knowledge in order to make short and long term sourcing decisions for responsible commodity group.
  • Work with suppliers to maintain and develop appropriate levels of quantity and quality measurements; reduce supplier rejects and consistent review of opportunities to consolidate purchases with fewer suppliers and control of new suppliers.
  • Knowledge of all GMP requirements.
  • Maintain and follow proper ISO procedures.
  • Financial analysis experience and negotiation skills.
  • Broad computer knowledge of various software packages.
  • CPM “Certified Purchasing Manager” certification preferred
