Position Summary:
The client company has developed a unique technology that improves visualization in less invasive surgery, and is assembling an organization of engineers, surgeons and physicists to pioneer new technologyvisualization solutions. This illumination technology delivers light uniformly and efficiently to even the smallest surgical fields and has been integrated into conventional surgical tools, maximizing visualization and efficiency while enabling surgeons to utilize time-honored surgical techniques. The company is looking for a Director of Product Development who will be responsible for directing the design and development of new technology, and for bringing that technology to the marketplace. This individual will also be responsible for research aimed at practical applications of scientific theories. This research will be primarily product oriented, but may also result in scientific achievements that are applicable to the company’s products. He or she will also be responsible for the supervision of associates directly responsible for new product development.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Define and ensure implementation of new product development plans and programs for the company
- Monitor the smooth execution of plans and programs cross-functionally
- Ensure the proper allocation of resources to achieve project goals within established timelines and budgets
- Define product segmentation needs to satisfy needs of developed and developing markets
- Work directly with physicians to obtain product feedback and to investigate current and future needs
- Ensure that customer feedback is applied to the design of new products
- Review and approve technical documentation to verify compliance to technical specifications and standards
- Provide technical advice when required
- Communication of business related issues or opportunities to the next management level
Education Requriements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Photonics Engineering
- Master’s degree and/or MBA preferred
Position Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in medical device development
- Ability to develop, initiate and bring to production advanced medical devices that meet the strategic plans of the company
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the medical device marketplace
- Experience in budget forecasting
- Experience managing different engineering disciplines
- Experience in mechanical design or industrial design
- Experience with sterilization protocols and materials
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in development of disposable products is a plus
- Having photonics fundamentals is a plus
- Experience in injection molding is a plus for advanced
